Absolute resemblance cannot be guaranteed

June 2025

Keit Bonnici has been invited to work with and in Bevkov Square, the central meeting place in the city of Nova Gorica. The performative intervention ‘Absolute resemblance cannot be guaranteed’ by Keit, takes place during the opening days of the Biennale. It is live-streamed through the square’s webcam, which have been installed as part of GO! 2025.

The focus of ‘Absolute resemblance cannot be guaranteed’ lies within the live webcam recording in relation to the metaphysical qualities of the public domain in Bevkov square. The performance questions what it means to broadcast cultural happenings, and to allow people to be unwittingly observed. Here, Keit critically examines these apparatuses by means of destabilising the physical order and the social matrix of the square by re-purposing material and immaterial components inherent to the square.

Through speculative cryptic colouration (camouflage) methods, the artist alters his physical and behavioral characteristics by deploying a distruptive coloration suit and moves extremely slow across the square. The behavioural and aesthetic dimensions are traversed through the bodily presence of the artist’s temporalities and social interactions in the public realm under observation.
