We Have Never Been Here is a curatorial collaborative project, based on mutual support, learning and intersectionality. A group of curators exchange ideas, approaches to praxis and curatorial concerns.
We Have Never Been Here curators are; Sabrina Calleja Jackson, Francesca Mangion, ​Alexia Medici, Margerita Pulè​, ​Elise Tonna, and Manuela Zammit.

 

Sabrina Calleja Jackson is a Malta-based artist and curator. Her work delves into the collected
memory by means of visual narratives, archived objects and dynamic processes of research. Calleja Jackson obtained a Masters Degree in Fine Art, Site and Archiving Intervention from the University of Central Lancashire in 2012 and a B.A. (Hons) in Fine Art at the MCAST Institute for the Creative Arts in 2011. She previously worked as a Programme Coordinator at Spazju Kreattiv, St James Cavalier and is currently based at MUŻA, The Malta National Community Art Museum as a Coordinator Curatorial Support.

 

Francesca Mangion lives and works in Malta. Mangion is an independent curator, artist and writer with an academic background in contemporary and modern theory. She writes regularly for art blogs and journals and her writing has also appeared in select Mousse publications, undo.net, The Art Markets and AQNB. In 2015 she co-founded and was curator at La Plage, a project space based in Paris. From 2017-2018, she was the gallery manager of Malta Contemporary Art in Valletta, Malta.

 

Alexia Medici is an artist, art program coordinator and a socially engaged independent curator based in Barcelona since 2006. She loves being around people, and her curatorial projects mediate between social narratives and her investigations based on history and architectural context. This mediation usually results in site specific exhibitions related to the passage of time, and its effect on the surrounding space and its community.

 

Margerita Pulè is an artist, curator, researcher and cultural manager, with a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Malta. She is founder-director of Unfinished Art Space, and is also a founder-member of the Magna Żmien Foundation, which digitises 20th century analogue home archives, and is currently a researcher on the Horizon 2020 project Acting on the Margins Arts as Social Sculpture (AMASS). 2017 – 2019 she was Outreach Manager at Spazju Kreattiv, and previously was Programme Manager for Valletta 2018, programming the cultural programme of Valletta’s title as European Capital of Culture 2018.

 

Elyse Tonna is an architect, cultural manager and curator currently carrying out an MA in Cultural Heritage Management. Her curatorial practice is primarily related to contemporary art practice, community-based art and socially-engaged projects. She is the Arts Coordinator of ACT, focusing mostly on arts in public spaces. She has recently been appointed Curator and Co-Creative Director of the Gabriel Caruana Foundation. Tonna is a Fellow of the Salzburg Global Forum. Elyse has also curated a number of exhibitions locally and abroad and recently led production teams for major local exhibitions, artistic installations and theatrical set designs.

 

Manuela Zammit is currently reading for a Research Master in Critical Studies in Art and Culture at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She also holds a MFA in Contemporary Curating from Manchester Metropolitan University. Manuela has previously completed a curatorial internship at Foam Photography Museum Amsterdam and worked at Valletta Contemporary as assistant to the artistic director. She is currently based between Amsterdam and Malta.
